1. Avoid babydoll lingerie

The goal of a boudoir photo shoot is to show off the feminine, and that means our gorgeous curves! Many women are self-conscious about our tummies, and select lingerie that is bulky around the middle to hide this area. The most common mistake is what is known in the lingerie industry as a "babydoll", lingerie that widens around the stomach adding unnecessary bulk to this area. Regardless of your body shape and size, selecting lingerie that shows off your curves always looks best in boudoir photos! And San Francisco has so many lingerie stores, there's no excuse for selecting pieces that aren't flattering! Take a look at these photos from lingerie stores and you'll notice how unflattering the babydoll style lingerie style is on both women.

2. Avoid fluorescent or brightly colored lingerie

Avoid fluorescent or brightly colored lingerie! Regardless of your skin tone, bright colors such as yellows, greens, orange, pinks or blues can leave a color cast on your skin. This is very difficult to fix in photoshop!

3. Don't tan before your boudoir photo session.

Many women like the idea of beautifully tanned skin in their photos. But please, do not tan right before your photo session! Tan lines are difficult to remove from photos and spray tans can leave an orange tint to your skin,  and sunburned skin is not pretty. Your boudoir photos will emphasize your figure, your face, and your expression. Your skin will look naturally radiant in our natural light studio, so no need to create a problem by trying to darken your skin before your photo session.

4. Don't starve yourself before your photo shoot.

There's definitely a misconception that not eating or not drinking water before a photo session will make you look skinnier. This is definitely not the case! Please eat breakfast the day of your photo session. Drink plenty of water leading up to and the day of your photo session. Losing five pounds a week before your boudoir session is not going to make a difference in your photos. Beautiful photos are achieved through the expertise of your photographer: an understanding of lighting, posing, camera angles, connection and facial expression and composition. So please, don't starve yourself before your photo session!

5. Avoid wearing clothing that will leave a mark.

The day of your photo session you'll want to wear clothing that won't leave marks on your skin. These are very difficult to remove from your skin in photoshop. Avoid all items that can leave skin imprints: socks, bra straps, panty lines, textured fabrics and waistline imprints from pants. It's best to wear sandals or flip flops, a loose fitting dress and loose fitting undergarments. You can also bring a robe (one without texture) to wear during hair and make up. Also make sure you don't have a hair tie on your wrist and remove any jewelry you don't want to wear in the photos.
